The IL Galeotto rice mill, a few kilometers from Mantua, in the middle of rice fields and watercourses, certified by an edict of Maria Teresa D'Austria on May 20, 1763, has been owned by the Vanzini family for over a century. Currently, the brothers Tomaso and Damiano give an active impulse to the cultivation and transformation of the most prestigious varieties of rice: Vialone nano and Carnaroli.
The old machines, still working, with the precious wooden wheel moved by the water of the Mincio of the Tartagliona canal, form the museum part of the opificio. Il Galeotto currently uses machines that process rice in the old way, leaving to the grain that rustic color typical of the valuable product and not enervated ideal for risotto alla Pilota.
